Zwölf Leben

15 November 2026 – 11 April 2027 / Kunstmuseum

In Zwölf Leben, Florian Germann brings together sculptures, models and experimental arrangements to create a multifaceted world in which nature, technology and architecture intersect, opening up new possibilities for coexistence.

Florian Germann’s (b. 1978) sculptures are open systems in which humans, animals, technology and the environment intersect. Some are indeed taken up by plants, insects or birds; others hold such encounters open as a possibility. At the heart of the work is the question of how energy circulates and is transformed between organic life, artificial systems and materials. The result is a body of work that may function as sculpture, model, experimental apparatus or habitat. The sculptures respond to their surroundings, set processes in motion and render invisible forces perceptible. In the solo exhibition Twelve Lives, these different forms of work come together, extending to encompass the Kunstmuseum itself and the threshold between interior and exterior space.

A monograph on the artist’s work will be published by DISTANZ in February 2027 to accompany the exhibition, with contributions by Raphael Gygax, Linda Jensen and Stefanie Gschwend.

Curator: Stefanie Gschwend
